SIMEDHealth Sleep Center is designed to assist our sleep medicine physicians by providing diagnostic testing related to sleep disorders. With properly diagnosed sleep-related issues, sleep center patients have reported improved health and a more active lifestyle.
The SIMEDHealth Sleep Medicine division is proud to have board-certified sleep physicians who are devoted to the diagnosis, testing and treatment of poor sleep caused by Apnea (snoring and sleep-related breathing disorders), Restless Leg Syndrome, Narcolepsy (excessive sleepiness), disturbed day/night rhythm (often caused by shift work), and Parasomnia (nightmares and other unusual nighttime behavior).
Seventy million people suffer from chronic, severe sleep disorders in the United States. That means nearly 1 in 4 Americans has a sleep problem. If you have any issues related to sleep– non-restorative sleep, sleeping too much, excessive daytime sleepiness (falling asleep at inappropriate times), difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, or abnormal behaviors associated with sleep– it could be a sign that you have a sleep disorder. According to our physicians, complications that arise from simply failing to get a good night’s sleep include: hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, stroke, diabetes, weight gain, and daytime risks, such as constant fatigue, poor reflexes when driving or at work, clouded judgment, and inability to concentrate. If caused by a sleep disorder, these potentially dangerous distractions and conditions are usually treatable.
The key to successfully treating a sleep disorder is an accurate diagnosis. There are over 100 different sleep disorders, and each of those has a different treatment approach. For some disorders, there are several choices available, so it is important you discuss the options with your physician and develop a treatment plan.
At SIMEDHealth, you can refer yourself to our experienced physicians simply by making an appointment. Or, you can ask your physician to generate a specialty referral to SIMEDHealth Sleep Medicine. We will first schedule you for an in-office appointment with one of our sleep physicians, followed by diagnostic testing available at our Gainesville Sleep Center, if necessary. This routine will allow our sleep physicians to construct a personalized plan to get you back into an optimal sleep cycle.
